Social Media, I have a bone to pick with you today. Over the last few months, it’s become quite apparent to me that you have skeletons in your closet. For one, as much as you connect people and make the world feel a little smaller, you’ve also exposed some harsh realities.

I’m a positive person, for the most part, I choose to see the positive in situations and in people,  but I’m not naive enough to think the world is all good. There’s junk on social media… inappropriate content, revealing and scantily clad photos, leaving little to the imagination and people who are just after their own agendas; fake followers, bullies,  and INSTA-fame seekers.

I’m big on balance. I need it to function properly. I need my rest, I need my space and I need my time alone with the Lord. My family and friends are equally as important to keeping balance, and  It’s so good to have people in my life who respect that.   I’ve had a busy few weeks, and intentionally found time to rest and relax with friends and family. I’ve put away my phone and socialized the “old school” way.  It’s been wonderful and also revealed a lot of hidden truth.  As I live out loud in my faith and actively pursue the purpose I feel God has called me into, I’m also understanding the risk and hurt I’m exposing my heart to.

Living out loud for the Lord will come with a cost. It won’t always feel good. The flesh will want to take over and tell you to give up.  Actively pursuing Jesus takes courage. There will be people who walk away, stop talking to you, unfollow and avoid you, and that’s ok. I’ve had to come to terms with this… I tried to figure out why, I was hurt, offended even; I wanted to know if I offended someone, but God revealed to me that it wasn’t about me, it was about Him. Sometimes when we speak the truth, it makes people uncomfortable. Our job isn’t to make people feel good or comfortable, it’s to speak the truth. People will take offense and make it about you, but just remember this, it’s not about you, it never was… speak the truth in love, the truth will set you free! Stand firm in the faith and keep pursuing your call. God’s got you! He’s bigger than this platform.

Maneesha Grace

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.  For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? (Matthew 16:24-26)

Offense. It offends me 🙂 Satan’s biggest weapon against Joy, in my little ol’ opinion. But the God we serve is bigger still, and you’re so right to say that other people’s offense is not our business – you keep on doing what you’re called to do, and saying what God puts on your heart to say!
